There are 4 schools equipped with a solar-energy system so that the classes can continue during the dark monsoon period. In the evening it’s also possible to provide training to the elderly. The installation consists of a 130W solar panel where light bulbs are connected.
The installation of the solar panel system has been done by a Nepali firm, they have years of experience with the installation of these systems. Unfortunately, during the acceptance of these systems it was shown that the quality was insufficient and resulting in dangerous situations. These points are reported to the Umbrella Foundation since they were leading partner in this project. As a result of that report the systems have been adjusted.
Both the first report and the second report (after 2nd acceptance) are published under ‘publications’.
In addition, the schools are provided with a biogas plant which will be used to prepare food for the children. This because it seemed that students stayed home because the distance from home to school is too far to go home for lunch. Since this biogas plants are in use the turnout increased by around 30%. The dimensions of these biogas plants are 10 and 20 cubic meter.
