In 2008 we came into contact with Childwelfarescheme Nepal (CWSN) in Pokhara, Nepal. They are an international development charity, dedicated to supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in Nepal. They work closely with local Nepalese organisations, on projects which are child-focused, child-friendly, and aim to empower children and communities to create a brighter future for themselves.
One of there project is the Jyoti Vocational Training Centre where children receive general education, added with a specialized course. The courses are care worker, electrician, plumber and computer secretarial
For some time, there is a certified (CTVET) training for solar technicians. This course aims onto the promotion of renewable energy by training technicians so they can work in the field of solar energy. This specialized electrician course is to a large extent in line with the current electrical course at CWSN. Both courses will be combined to create more opportunities for the students. As a result will the recent course be extended with one month.
The two teachers of CWSN will receive a training in 2009 so that they will become able to give this training to the students. From 2010 onwards the first students will practice this course, with an average of 10 students every year.
The course materials are supplied by Lotus Energy from Kathmandu, this include the DC (12V) materials, according to the requirements of the course. In addition also AC materials (220V) have been provided because it’s believed that student will become more experienced when they can work with DC as well with AC-systems solar systems.
This AC-system has been installed by the student within there classrooms A total of 8 rooms have lights powered by solar. This system now has a dual function, the students can use it as a test system, but from the day of installation it also facilitates the building with light.
