People have fertile land but lack proper irrigation facilities resulting in food insecurity and income which forces them to look for cheap and menial labor in nearby towns or migrate to the Gulf countries in search of employment opportunities. Lack of nutritious food has had a negative impact on the children; malnutrition can be seen in most houses. During off-season, parents are forced to go to the jungle to forage for food (roots, tubers) or hunt.
The target groups of the project comprise of the various community group such as self-help groups, Mother Groups, and Community Based Organizations of Lothar Village. The target population compromises of Chepangs: 90%, Tamang: 9% and the rest include Dalit and other ethnic groups.
