Despite the ‘covid 19’ restrictions, the Unica Foundation is still organizing its annual running competition this year. Because events in September may not yet be responsible in the Netherlands, it has been decided to adjust the character of the Welloop. Not Unica’s headquarters in Hoevelaken, but participant’s own front door will be the starting point on Thursday 10 September.
The running event is normally organized around Unica’s head office at De Wel business park, from which the event took its name. Participants run as many laps of about 900 meters in an hour as possible and are sponsored for that achievement by family and friends. In this way, they raise money for the Unica Foundation.
Virtual edition
The Welloop will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2020, a date on which it is doubtful whether it is responsible to organize a running race. To remove all doubts, the Unica Foundation has decided to make this edition a virtual event. Participants do not have to come to Hoevelaken, but start their sponsorship campaign in their own environment to raise money for the Unica Foundation. At 4:30 PM there will be a joint start, live from Hoevelaken, after which the participants will begin their sponsor action from their own front door or at their favourite location nearby.
You can register for the “virtual Welloop” on Thursday September 10, 2020 via www.welloop.nl (Dutch only). Everyone can create their own sponsor action on this registration site. Participants thereby determine themselves which sporting performance they deliver and can invite people from their promotional page to sponsor them. The registration fee is only € 10 and all proceeds will benefit the water and sanitation project in Ramkot, just like last year. This project provides 2,000 residents with the necessary water supply and toilets and is the largest project launched by the Unica Foundation in Nepal to date.
2021
To compensate for the lack of a joint event with all participants and a tasty ending, the Unica Foundation has decided to change the date of the 2021 edition too. It will already take place on Thursday, May 20, 2021, instead of in the usual September month. For the time being, the organizing committee will first focus on a successful virtual edition on Thursday 10 September 2020.
