The Welloop, the annual sponsor run for the Unica Foundation, has raised a record amount for the foundation. Chairman Daan van Vliet received a check for no less than € 65,713 on Thursday during the virtual closing ceremony of the sponsor run in Hoevelaken. More than 125 participants took part in the event and contributed to the record amount, which is used for technical aid projects in Nepal.
The Welloop, named after the street in Hoevelaken where initiator Unica is located, is normally a running competition in which participants run as many laps of 900 meters as possible in one hour. Due to corona, the event was organized in a modified way for the second year in a row. The contestants need to participate from home. This made the Welloop more accessible than ever: after all, everyone could decide for themselves when and with what kind of sporting achievement they collected money from family, friends, colleagues and relations. Numerous sports achievements were noted, ranging from cycling, mountain biking, rollerblading and running to a canoe trip to raise money for the Unica Foundation.
Record amount
On Thursday afternoon a virtual closing ceremony took place with all participants, where the final result was announced. This exceeded all expectations with no less than € 65,713. Chairman Daan van Vliet gratefully received the accompanying check on behalf of the foundation. “This is a fantastic contribution for a country that may need help now more than ever,” said Daan. Nepal is one of the hardest hit countries in the latest wave of the coronavirus pandemic. “Although the Unica Foundation mainly focuses on technical aid projects, we are now also trying to use our contacts and resources to get more medical equipment in Nepal, for example,” Daan clarified. In particular, the proceeds of the Welloop 2021 are intended for the recently launched TREATS project, which provides more than 3,000 vulnerable children with the necessary facilities to be able to go to school.
Prices
Although the focus of the event is on raising money for the Unica Foundation, there were also a number of small prizes to be won for the participants. There was a gift for the longest run, the most original video, the most special sports performance, the best Strava art and the highest individual sponsor income. The prizes and other gifts were made available by Fletcher Hotels, Hekon-Valentijn, Rogelli, Stegman and Wensink.

Part of the proceeds of the Welloop come from the sponsorship program of the Unica Foundation. Various companies are affiliated to it and make a general contribution to the activities of the foundation. In addition to technical service provider Unica, AFPRO Filters, Boels, Bosch Thermotechniek, DVE Project Support, Eneco eMobility, Grundfos, HC Groep, Inteco, Nijburg Industry Group, Rensa, Rexcom, River Air Treatment, Triple Solar and Wensink are part of the sponsorship program.
