Since 2007 contact was established between NRCS and Unica Foundation, Therefore NRCS approached us for possible support of the project. During several meetings we discussed the technical and financial aspects, where necessary they were adjusted. Finally we decided to accept the project and that we would support it for the next three years.
The overall objective of the project is to provide clean and wholesome drinking water to the remote and underprivileged community and improve the condition of public health as well as help in the income generation for women by conducting project on drinking water and sanitation.
As the NRCS wrote in their project proposal:
– To establish the society as an authentic and organized institution by promoting leadership in it.
– To complete a sustainable and quality drinking water project.
– To construct latrines in every house by awaking people on sanitation.
– To conduct the project activities forming mother groups and water and sanitation user committee.
– To conduct non-formal classes for the illiterate members of the community.
Activities 1st year:
– The society (institution in the district water resource act) will be registered as an organized community.
– Community work plan will be prepared and implemented with the activities of health and sanitation conducted.
– The situation of environment and sanitation will have improved.
– Mother groups will formed and works on saving credits and income generation will have been conducted.
– The literacy rate will have increased.
– Reduce the water born diseases by imparting knowledge on hygiene and sanitation.
– They can utilize saving time that is being in use to carry water for other income generating activities.
Activities 2nd year:
– The project will complete and clean drinking water will have been used in an organized manner.
– Latrines will have been made in all the houses and the community will have been declared an open defecation free area.
– Mother groups will have started saving credits and they will have invested them for improving their life standards.
Activities 3rd year:
– Maintenance fund, man power and monitoring and supervision procedures all will be made effective for the sustainability of the project.
The drinking water system will be composed of 3 new buffer tanks nearby a secured water source. These tanks have a capacity of 15, 18 and 19 cubic meters. By means of gravity, these tanks will supply water to 61, 73 and 74 taps. Each house will have a tap.
After the third year, the community is prepared and trained in such a way to maintain and use the system responsible.

1267 villagers in which the system has been designed for 1867 users in the future, based on a population growth of 2.62% over 15 years.
