Unica Foundation sanctioned two new projects at Kaski district in January 2019. Firstly, a vocational training on the ‘Plumbing’ at Panchakanaya Training Institute, Pokhara on the 1st of January. Secondly, the Ramkot Solar Lifting Water Supply and Sanitation Project, carried out by Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS), Kaski on the 4th of January. These projects will commence on the 1st of February and the 8th of February respectively.
Training on Plumber Trade: Panchakanya Training Institute Pvt. Ltd, Pokhara
Unica Foundation has started a new collaboration with Panchakanya Training Institute Pvt. Ltd for a vocational training in plumbing trade starting from the 1st of February until June 2019. The idea behind the new project is to give skills training in plumbing to 20 people from economically poor men and women to be able to financially independent.
The training is of a Level 1 standard with a duration of 390 hours, as per the curricula approved by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). Therefore, the intended outcome will be that at least 90% of the participants will pass the CTEVT level 1 skills test and thus will be graduated.
Ramkot Solar Lifting Water Supply and Sanitation Project
Ramkot WaSH is the largest project ever in the history of Unica Foundation, starting from February 2019. The project was signed and strengthened with a kick-off meeting between key stakeholders from Rupa Rural Municipality, NRCS Kaski, local consumers, Suryodaya Urja and Unica Foundation.
The aim of the project is to improve the quality of life by setting up a sustainable and qualitatively safe water supply system and strengthening the income-generating capacity of local people with a series of training activities. Therefore, the four largest parts this project covers are capacity development, income generation, the construction of a water system and installation of solar and pump systems. This project covers a total of 333 households (1.984 population), three schools, a health post, and an agricultural office in Rupa Rural Municipality Ward no. 7, Ramkot, Kaski.
NRCS Kaski will act as the principal implementing partner, while the Unica Foundation supports by funding and monitoring the projects. The role of Rupa Rural Municipality is to provide a matching fund arrangement, land management and water source registration. Furthermore, Suryodaya Urja is a company that is responsible for the installation and monitoring of solar energy and pump systems. Moreover, the Water User’s Committee (WUC) will function as a local institution which makes contributions to labor and participation throughout the project.
