Despite the corona restrictions the annual running event ‘Welloop’ of the Unica Foundation, has brought in a record amount. Last week it was announced that the special ‘virtual edition’ of 2020 has raised a whopping € 43,955. The amount will be used for the technical projects that the Unica Foundation supports in Nepal together with local partners.
Due to the corona restrictions, the Welloop 2020 had a different setup. It was not possible to organize the event as usual around Unica’s head office at De Wel in Hoevelaken, but improvisation enabled the organization committee to come up with an excellent alternative. Participants could join a ‘virtual edition’ of the Welloop from home. Dozens of sports enthusiasts and ambassadors responded to the call and registered for the Welloop 2020.
Other sports achievements
With the virtual set-up of the Welloop, there was also room for an alternative sporting interpretation. Where the event normally revolves around running as many laps as possible in an hour, participants could also achieve other sporting achievements this year. For example, various participants got on their racing bike and others joined walking tours for the Unica Foundation. Participants were also given the entire week to record their sports performance, and could therefore determine the moment come in action for the Unica Foundation.
Record yield
To create a bit of a collective feeling, a joint virtual start ceremony was organized on Thursday 10 September – the date on which the official Welloop should have taken place. A week later, all participants and ambassadors of the Unica Foundation came together again virtually for the award ceremony and announcement of the final results.
A number of participants received nice prizes, which were made possible by Rogelli, Fletchers Hotels and Wensink Automotive. The highlight was of course the announcement of the contribution from the event for the Unica Foundation which, at no less than € 43,955, was again higher than last year. Ramesh Paudyal, the local project representative of the Unica Foundation in Nepal, was surprised with the wonderful donation in a video. He emphasized that the amount is well spent and the communities in Nepal are very grateful to the Unica Foundation for its efforts.
2021
In addition to the donations to participants, the result of the Welloop was also prepossessed by various regular sponsors of the Unica Foundation. DVE Project Support, Grundfoss, Afpro Filters, Rexcom, Inteco, Bosch Thermotechniek, River luchtbehandeling, Solid Air, Rensa, Wensink and Sig Air Handling have been affiliated with the Unica Foundation as sponsors for several years. In 2021, the organization expects to be able to organize the Welloop in Hoevelaken again. The edition of upcoming year has been put on the agenda for Thursday 20 May 2021.
