Partly due to the changing climate, less and less water is available to irrigate agricultural land. This regularly leads to food shortages and hunger, especially at the end of remote valleys. The area contains steep sloped fields and therefore it is not possible to acquire water from higher sources through conventionally dug irrigation channels. This problem can be solved with concrete open channels or pipes with a large diameter.

The farmers themselves are unable to purchase the necessary supplies and raw materials such as pipes and cement. However, they are happy to help with the installation of these irrigation systems. With the new irrigation systems, three harvests per year are usually possible. This does not only resolve the food shortage, but it also helps communities to build a better life through the sales of vegetables and rice. Moreover, education programs are in place to teach farmers better cultivation methods and explain them ways to grow other crops.
